Belshazzar's Daughter is the first in the series of her gripping detective novels set in Istanbul. Inspector Çetin Ýkmen and Sergeant Mustafa Süleyman set out to track down the killer of an elderly Jewish man in Balat.
A long-term lover of Istanbul, Nadel describes the city in keen detail, and she has been described as "the Donna Leon of Istanbul". When asked why she sets her novels there she replied, "because there are so many wonderful places to hide a body".
